Multiple shapes one stroke???

Hey AS forum!
Quick question for some of you more advanced users. I know you can create the effect of a single stroke around multiple objects in a group layer by taking the stokes off the objects and then turning on the shadow option and setting the offset and blur to 0 and expansion to at least 1 which is a pretty awesome trick but is there a way to achieve the same effect while still being able to see the stroke "or should I say shadow" on the stage? I thought by using some masking technique this could be done but I can't seem to figure it out. If this isn't something AS can do without using the shadow trick then that would be awesome but if it isn't, it would be a very welcome function to future versions of anime studio. I think it would probably render faster if this was an actual stroke and not a shadow. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated!!
