Perhaps this function exists, or this is a script somewhere that does this. But occasionally I'm having problems with an imported file that I want to fill and it won't fill properly because of some obscure point that wasn't connected. Would be nice to have a function where we could select all and then use the tool and it would weld all points together by proximity.

have a look at Scripts; Other; Auto Weld. Hopefully it should do just what you're after (although I think you may have to edit the script to change the default proximity radius).

Yeah I discovered this a bit after posting this. Would be nice to have the script edited to have a box to control the distance of the weld. Would give it more uses. Need to play with scripting at some point.
