Hi!
I am trying to make CrazyGuy disappear in through a door but I can't find any way to do this. I want him to gradually vanish in the doorway, but how?
Can anyone give me a hint? Thanks in advance!

put him on a separate layer
keyframe him in the doorway at 100 percent visibility
go to where you want him to disappear and
keyframe that 0 percent visibility
and it will fade from between the 2 keyframes

Hello obben

Just go in timeline setting, turn on the layer opacity thingny, go the the frame where you want the character to start vanishing, make a keyframe in the timeline on the layer opacity node, double click the character top layer, set opacity to 100% if not already, then go to the frame where you want the character to be completelly vanished, make a keyframe on the timeline layer opacity node, double click the character top layer, set opacity to 0%.

Are you looking for a "magical" disappearing effect... like he is fading away? Then transparency or opacity would work. Or do you want him to appear to walk through a door and go behind it? Then you would use masking. I just wasn't clear on how you wanted him to "disappear".

Search the forum and do the tutorials.

There are quite a few masking topics on the forum that are quite informative and include sample files. Look in the "Tips and Techniques" area. At the top are two "sticky" topics. One has beginner tutorials that includes masking.

Another is one I wrote that is more "technical" and explains how masking works and what is actually going on from an "alpha channel" perspective.

Use an overlay. Draw your BG with the door, the duplicate it and remove half of the door. Place your character between the two layers.

Uh... yeah, what Slowtiger said!

I can over complicate things sometimes. You may still want to learn masking later of course for something more complex. ;)

Well.. There is a very simpel thing I don't understand: How do I remove half the door? I can't find any eraser.

I really recommend you do the tutorials, again, if necessary.

There is no eraser. You can erase selected points, and you can make an outline invisible between two points.

Right!
And when I followed the recommendation to create a new layer and draw a part of the door I managed to make Crazy Guy walk in, turn around and then walk out again. Thanks fpr all suggestions, it's getting better all the time!

I did something similar on my first animation. What I did was create two background layers on the same scene, and had my object emerge, as if emerging from a swamp. Here is what I did...

Hope this helps
