Render a still with alpha

Probably a silly question.
How do I render a still image with an alpha?
So when I open it in Photoshop it has an alpha?
At the moment I select and delete the background colour
but would be nice to bring it in with transparency.

If you're exporting to a format that supports transparency, such as PNG, it should be transparent in any part of the image with no filled shapes. For example, if you select File->New, and export that blank canvas to a PNG, it will render a fully transparent image.
So I guess the question would be, what image format are you saving to?

Doh!
I was hitting control+R
saving as a png
and bringing that in.
I knew there was a simple explanation
I need to export the frame as a png
Thanks!
WORKS!

Ctrl-R, save as PNG, used to support alpha transparency in 5.5. For some reason it was lost in 5.6.
Like he said, the only work around is exporting the single frame.
