Render one pass to a file using png's normally. Then in a separate file have a group layer masking set to 'reveal all'. Layers 2 and 3 are black and white vectors that cover the entire camera view, their order doesn't matter. Winsor's masking layer is set to 'subtract from mask' Render to another file using png format. Try to keep the feet as close to the bottom of the camera view.

Import both files, Vue will detect the sequence pictures. If the alpha is backward use the invert to correct. Now you have an animated alpha plane. You will need to add the time line and move one of the plane's parameters to get the first key frame. I'm having issues the getting a codec that works. Some that work fine will not play in media player, older codec's give a grain in alpha whan rendering. I have a program that takes squence pictures and makes a movie out of them, If I could just find it :)

A rendering in Vue with 3 lights.

Hope this is helpfull

Nice one dueyftw, I was just checking out the vue billboard thing myself, it's a bit crap that it doesn't support alpha channels, I wish masking was simpler in AS too, but your explanation makes it seem simple. :?

Hi - Thanks for the tutorial, but I am confused about layer 2 and 3. You mention a black and white vector. How do I do that? Are you asking to change the colors to black and white? Please help - Thankyou

Ok - I got the mask to work and it looks good, but I can see a bit of the square around the alpha plane. Is this what happens or should i be able to make it 100% invisible? Thanks

What compression are you using? jpg works fine, png shows up from the alpha being in the format. I think.

Just use jpg seq if your doing animation.

I got it working, and it works well. Question for Vue users, has anyone tried to use an alpha animation objects using the animation timeline? For example using a car from moho, and applying a one of the presets for follering the terrain. I tried it and the flat alpha object flips upsidedown.
Thank you for you help
