Really lame Newbie's first animation

OK, so it's not "Snow White", but hey, I only got Anime Studio yesterday. I rigged a simple stick figure character to learn how to work bones, and here is my very first animation.

http://fiziwig.com/anim/stickman.swf

I rendered it as an avi but it was over 10 MB even at half-size. When I tried to render as an MOV AS crashed. Did I do something wrong, or is this normal on a PC?

That's really good for a first try. Especially the shoulder shrug made me laugh.

Crashing shouldn't occur. How big are your project's dimensions? Something like this shouldn't be bigger than 200 k in a Quicktime MOV with MPEG-4.

Thanks for those comments.

My project dimensions are 320 x 240, at 24 FPS.

You mentioned MPEG-4. I also have the problem that when I try to play any MP4 file from somebody else, it crashes QuickTime.

Have you tried a different codec? Mpg format is variable quality codec, you can get very large files on the wrong settings.

The problem is that when I export the MOV it brings up the codec picker dialog but then crashes immediately before letting me pick a codec.

I have had the same problem when trying to use Quicktime as the chosen method. Not sure why it happens. Just so you know you are not alone...

I solved the problem by getting QuickTime Pro. Now I export in AVI and use QuickTime Pro to make an embeded MOV for my web site.
