Pixar exhibition in Melbourne, Australia

For any of you in the Melbourne area who have the time and a little cash, drop in and see the Pixar exhibition in the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Federation Square.

$15 per adult entry, lots of interesting character development and design insight. Small queues.

I particularly would like to draw your attention to the Artscape exhibition - it's a side-room which it's easy to miss amongst the other exhibits and the dimly lit areas.
It shows an 11-minute film which uses a lot of the pre-production design artwork (painted images), but splits them into layers which it distributes in multiple 3D planes and moves the camera in and out of them. There are a few minor image animation features (e.g. moving an image of a car along a road background) , but it is mainly camera work on layered 2D backgrounds.

However, it shows some wonderful examples of the sort of multi-plane background/scenery camera effects possible in 2D animation, that Anime Studio Pro (Pro only) is quite capable of handling.

Regards, Myles.

Myles,
Would you know if this exhibition is planned for Sydney?

Hi Patmals,

sorry, it seems to be a Melbourne-only event (possibly partly due to the ACMI faciltities), although I believe a couple of the Pixar animators were around giving talks at the Sydney Film Festival in June.

Regards, Myles.
