"procedural" wood texture... sort of

I was fooling around with spots. Don't know if this was done before but I thought it was kind of neat.

Can't be animated very well. Doesn't change orientation except by changing the angles of ALL of the spot effects... still it would work in a pinch.

I used every available spot for styles and effects. 2 spot effects on the base shape for the grain. 1 style with 2 spot effects for the "knots" and 1 style with
spots for the grooves and groove highlights.

It might be better to eliminate one of the knots spots and use it for another layer of grain.

Thanks for share. Good tip. Although its animation is not precise it could be good to create static backgrounds.

Dang!

I have found the best way to use this is to render it out and load the image back in as a layer or texture.

If you do ANY type of scaling of the layer or camera zooming at all with this in it it just falls apart completely. The only way to maintain the "texture" is to render it and import.

If you don't plan to zoom the camera or scale the layer... then it's okay as is.

In reality there are better ways to make a wood texture if you're going to use it as an image anyway.

This is a cool one. It is a pity it is only for windows. :(
