Have a look at his first example (there's a small link to the movie file under the image section) where he deals with a turning realistic cartoon head.
John Kricfalusi always offers interesting examples and deep analysis, but be careful about his optinions. In any case, he's worth a concentrated reading. You don't get more animation advice on this high level for less money.
