3D head turn with simple bone technique

Here's an interesting but very simple technique for doing 3D rotating heads as long as they are simple shapes. I'm still playing with this but already using different shapes introduced by muuvist. ( see origami crocodile thread)
viewforum.php?f=9

Here's my file

Ive tried this shape first with a cirle and now a rounded triangular shape with just 4 x bones to play with!!!

Any thoughts or opinions?

Cheers

Yeah!
It is quite convincing and easy to manipulate.
I think that the center of rotation is a little strange. Maybe you can put the bones in another place and angle, link them better and modify the strength and the head turn is more ... head-turn.

Something like this maybe?

There is something important to other people to know that is that you have used direct bind point to the bones that is not a very often used technique for this forum member (as far as I know). I use that binding a lot of time.
Best

(Glad to see you again for these lands...)

Hi Genete. Your re-done file is great! I also used a little translate bone to drag the eyes slightly over the edge of the head for each left and right profile. This is very interesting. I will continue to play with this technique to see how far it can go.

I like also this technique a lot!!.
It is simple and effective for simple characters (few strokes). Valid for 2.5D rigs.
Good luck.

.....

I'm feeling that with heyvern's technique, my 3d springy rig, DarthFurby's actions tips and this lat one we are opening a new path of animation world with Anime Studio. That's what I feel.... Maybe all this stuff is already know by the masters and we are only redoing the wheel... maybe.... or not!

... also I have just putted a post in scripting area regarding "flexible constraints" that I have the feeling it will be the basics for a new BIG step in my 3D tech. I'll post here also.
Time will answer.

What I like about this technique is that very little bones are required to make the rotation. I realise it is less powerfull than your springy mechanism rig, but a simpler option for the less tech savy. All thanks to muuvist :) for the initial idea. Genete is already expanding the horizons as always :)

I've now added some point manipulation to the pupils.

Here's another version with a nose.

EDIT:
And eyebrowse

The fantastic thing about this technique is that you can adjust the head shape to almost any shape you like in seconds by simply dragging the points.

Would anyone like a tutorial on how to do this?

Great nose!!!! LOL. A little tricky because the turn from side to side is by up and down, but funny character!!!

...this is amazing... in less than 24 hours there is a new (and simple) head turn technique!!!
From my side it is not necessary to make a tutorial... but someone else can have troubles to understand the how to ... but it is so simple (!) :D

-----------
(take a look to my new post in Tips & Techs) ... (I'm thrilled about the new horizons I've opened...) (I feel that my developing never ends and never finish a serious animation...)

Thanks muuvist. And It's all thanks to your technique you shared. I'm currently working on a more complicated model which I will post as soon as I have finished.
