Well, not really "new". It started in 2002.
There are also some other open software non linear video editors...

Yeah, kino. It's real good for getting clips out of your DV source, and then trimming and combining clips. but it's fairly limited. It isn't multitrack, and the effects are very rudimentary. I think cinelerra is a better choice for a NLV editor, and I hear jahshaka is also making progress.
