New Forum Avatar

I created a new forum avatar. The artwork was drawn in Flash 2.0, exported as image sequence, imported into The Gimp, color corrected (for the background of this forum), converted to 32-bit pallet, optimized using the Optimize for Gif filter, stored as an animated GIF, and tweaked the GIF hold time for animation.
The large version looks like this:
The small version looks like this:
The source file and GIF files can be found on my .Mac account:
bunnylogo.zip
I know it isn't great artwork, but without practice I will never improve.

Ah, maybe I should create a new avatar every day. That will help me improve...

The trouble with changing your avatar so much... I lose track of "who you are".
I associate an avatar with the "person". When it changes it seems like a "new person" or a different person.
Of course... this coming from someone WITHOUT an avatar.

If my ugly avatar gets other people to create beautiful ones, I don't complain...
How about this avatar, created with Moho:
only 1355 bytes (source:
meimoi.zip)
I now understand that I can't change my avatar every day, but I can put an avatar in this thread every day, can't I?
Or how about this still avatar, I created some days ago.

(source:
fireman.fla.zip)
Here's one I made tonight:
(1893 bytes, source:
alien-001.fla.zip)
Mind you, I will start to create those avatars in Moho, once I have a feel for good design and a better workflow. IME other programs are just so much easier to sketch in than Moho. In Moho everything is just so final.

Whoa Flash 2.0! I wonder if Flash's drawing and animation tools have evolved much since then. The stoned green bunny is my favorite by far.

Well, Flash's tools have evolved a lot since version 2...but drawing and animation? Nahhhh...Macromedia are too focussed on giving corporate programmers boners...Wonder if Adobe will do any better?

Missed responding to this. Nice avatar -wasn't sure what the bubbles were, is he drunk?

You suggested an avatar a day. That is actually a good idea if you want to learn to draw. I did a Texture-A-Day thread a while back on 3D Game Studio forums and I made a game texture everyday except weekends for a while. It not only produced a useful resource but I learned a lot about making textures. Go crazy, make a "Toon Avatar a Day for 30 Days Thread" Let people use them on the forums and you generate useful content while learning.
Actualy after I saw Adam Philips 'animation a day for 30 days thread' I am thinking I will try something similar, but probably going to be a 'Flash effects' type thing.
