Gradients and shadows scaling

Example:
I created an object....say a circle.
I put a shadow on it.

When I scale down the layer, the shadow doesn't scale with it. (the shadow covers almost the whole circle)

I have tried this with gradients also.....same results.
I think the values of the shadows and gradients are fixed and will stay the same when scaling layers

How do I get the shadow (gradients) to scale with the circle?

Thanks

That gradient should resize to match (approximately) the shape it is applied to. The shading fill effect does not. However, if you use layer shading instead, it will adjust as you scale the layer.

I thought layer shading will cast a shadow rather than shade the actual object (inside the object).

Am I wrong?

There's layer shadow which casts a shadow. (Not a true shadow, just a basic drop shadow.)

Then there's layer shading, which adds shading inside the objects in a layer.

Both are available in the Layer Settings dialog, under the "Shadows" tab.
