When I saw the demo of ASP5 at Siggraph, there was a cat jumping from roof to roof in a cartoon town - layered content with camera moves, midnight sky, fences, yards, trees, really cool stuff. I was hoping that the content (and more) like I saw at the demo was to be included with the program.

Indeeed, ASP5 does come with some content, but nothing like I saw at Siggraph in the demo. So.... will there be a a section on this site (like there is in Renderosity, and others re: free Poser content, etc) where all you great artists will be posting ASP5 content that we "who cannot draw worth a toot" can download and start building a LIBRARY we can access material from?

ASP5 is a blast to use, but my attempts at cartooning really stink, which makes using ASP5 a bit less fun since the characters I create actually diminish the animation.

When will user created free content become available-- and where will it be posted?

I'm hoping tha a huge community of users will come together and share content for this fun program...

AS has incorporated content. a lot. and i'm sure new versions will bring more yet.

Hey-- you're right. It is. How can I select and bring some of those assets into my own project? In other words --not bring the entire movie file in-- but just the cat-- or the house? I guess I mean organize and build my own custom library of assets that I like?

go to animation menu, "clear animation from document".
no one will move now.
then, select the layer you want (qiouqiou is the fox, shuzi is the tree, fang are the houses and shrubs), move it outside from the group layer (qiu qiu xia) and delete the group layer.

Considering that ASP is like a... 125mb download?... compared to... Moho... wich was about... 10mb?

Yeah... there must be some content in there.

And it isn't... crappy content either.

This would have made a huge difference in my experience if I had access to alll that content when I bought Moho originally... especially from a learning curve perspective.

I think there was just that one... rigged character in the original Moho. His name was Len? Or something?

He always reminded me of a... homeless drug addict... those skinny legs and baggy shorts... the crazed look in his eyes... the spiked unwashed hair...



I digress...

The new content kicks arse if you ask me.

I am at a point now with the upgrade to have learned enough to learn even more from the additional content. Timing was right for me. I have a tendency to use the stuff as a crutch and not go any further which for me is a big danger......

What I write, I write with no malice, arrogance or conceit.
Learn to draw.
It is not hard.
It is very easy.
Everyone can do it.
All it takes is a little practice everyday (a hour at least).
We don't have to be in a class room or university environment to draw.
We can be doodling on a napkin, in a notebook, hell, on a wall (just don't get caught).
I've been drawing since I was 4 years old.
My mother put the pencil in my hand and had me copy doodles she would draw (I think she wanted an artist in the family).
The more you do it. The better you'll get.
It is like walking, it takes time effort and motivation.
It's not going to happen overnight, but with practice it will happen.

Here's an exercise, do this for a year.
1. do a drawing a day for one hour for a year.
2. place the day and time you created your first drawing and keep it where you can find it.
3. one year to the day, if you have been drawing everyday for one hour for a year, go back to the first drawing you did, your very first one, and put it next to the last drawing you have done after a year. I assure you, you will see the improvement, and, you will very proud of yourself.

You don't need a computer.
All you need is a pencil, an eraser and paper.

Why do I write all this?
Because, if you learn to draw, you will never be dependent on anyone to do it for you. You will liberate yourself, you will be able to put your thoughts and concept on paper, and, since the drawings are created by you, YOU OWN THEM.

Don't think of drawing as something that you can't do or you will defeat yourself even before you start.

Think of it this way:
Don't be afraid of the pencil,
Don't be afraid of the eraser,
Don't be afraid of the paper,
Make the pencil, paper and eraser fear you.

I know you can draw because, I used to teach drawing.
I've taught people how to draw.
Even those who told me they could not draw until they were blue in the face.

It's like the Nike slogan "just do it".

I'm a developer, professionally. I make my living writing c#, Delphi, and SQL Stored Procedures. And believe me when I tell you, anyone can program. Practice a little bit each day, and eventually you'll get better. Now you may think I'm mocking you blacksunproject, but I'm not. Because it's exactly how I taught myself to program. I read a book or two, and sat down and started writing code. Practicing. And now I get paid to do it (a pretty good chunk of change too).

But the kicker is, not everybody has the inclination, the desire, or the time to pursue that practice. It just doesn't interest them. But that shouldn't exclude them from using programs, even templates to help them make something they want or need.

Same with animation. I want to tell stories, preferably in a visual medium (I been writing stories for a long time, and now want to try something else). I don't necessarily want to learn to draw, I get very little enjoyment out of drawing, and a whole lot of frustration. I doodle all the time, but to formerly draw something, doesn't really interest me. I lose interest in it quickly.

And I'm sure there are others as well...

However, there is a caveat. To tell the stories I wish to tell, I find I need my own content to use. So I have been drawing my own, and I have been practicing. I still great more frustration than enjoyment, but I will admit, there's a certain satisfaction to using your own artwork.

I just wanted to point out that there are other perspectives, other points of view to consider.

There is a flaw in your reasoning. Although everyone who can hold a pencil can learn to draw (even a chimpanzee), not everyone can be a master draftsman and original artist, like Albrecht Dürer. So, everyone can learn to draw up to a point.

I don't think it's necessary to be someone at the level of Dürer or Rembrandt to do animation... but there's no harm in learning some of the basic principles of drawing, layout, perspective -- it can only make your animation better, it can't make it worse. Someone who writes has to learn grammar and the basic techniques for writing, even if they aren't professional linguists or language experts; someone who plays music has to learn basic performance techniques for their instrument, even if they don't study theory and composition.

If you have a pencil, you can create anywhere, even if later on you are going to scan your doodlings into the computer to animate.
