Layer Visibility Help

How do i turn off Layer visibility?
I can't see frame zero for some reason...???
I made a character at frame zero and when i tried to do some point manipulation on the timeline suddenly the layer visibility kicked in and turned a section of the timeline red???...best i can do is drag the LV keyframe to back to frame 1.
I know i'm missing something basic here
... help please?
