My Nero Express suddenly won't play avi files I downloaded because the trial period for the mpeg4 codec has expired and I have to upgrade to get it back. Is there a free alternative? I hate paying for the privilege of using a codec. Does Quicktime Pro play mp4?

I am pretty sure that QuickTime supports MPEG-4.

I have QuickTime Pro and yes it certainly does support MPEG 4.
