Layer Problems

Help,
I am trying the Moho program for the first time today. I would like to be able to do lip sync.
I am using the papagayo program to generate a .dat file.
When I go to Moho and try to create the mouth switch layer with sub layers in it, I create a switch layer okay but when I try to put sub layers inside the switch layer they seem come out as separate layers, not as sub layers to the mouth switch layer and the animation doesn't work. How do I get newly created sub layers to stay as sub layers instead of becoming separate layers themselves?
What is the little arrow in the switch layer header for that turns when clicked?
I have looked in the forum but did not find an answer.
Thanks for your help.

Please have a look at Myles’s excellent “Moho Tips” Website under “Switch Layers”.

When the arrow faces down you’re able do drag another layer into it
(the switch layer turns red, indicating he is open).

Switch Layer Solved

Nolan,
Thanks for your help. I can now make a switch layer.
I am having another problem you may be able to help
with. After I complete an animation and try to export it
into a swf file I only get a blank gray screen but when
I export it into mov or avi it works fine. What am I doing
wrong when trying to export to swf? I am using the demo
version.
Thanks,
Ron

Are you builing you animations with images? If you use images that are warped by bones, they can't be exported to SWF. Also, the SWF output from the demo is greyscale.

... and as far as I know Images used in Switch-Layers won’t show up in .swf either

SWF Question

I am using images in the switch layers. I want to draw my own images with pen and paper and scan them into images then import them into image layers that I can animate. I have not used bones in the animation. I don't want to create the images in Moho using their drawing program. I would like to use their fill tool to color my pen drawings. I want to export the final animation as a swf file. Is this possible and if so how can it be done? I realize the swf will show up as a greyscale but you should be able to see the animation shouldn't you?
Thanks,
Ron

Uh... hmm...
You may need to look through the manual and read some more on how moho works.
Moho can import images as image layers but that's it. You can't "fill" line drawings, or convert them to vectors in Moho. You can't edit the images in anyway. You can animate the layers... translate, rotate, scale, bone warping... etc. But you can't modify the pixels of the image, like filling or painting. All of your "raster" work has to be done outside of Moho. Moho is not a paint program. It is a vector drawing program with image import support.
As far as exporting to SWF... I don't know for sure but I didn't think that images can be exported from Moho to swf... like I said I am not 100% positive of this.

I have Corel Draw which can convert bitmaps into vectors. If I converted my art into vector could I import it as a vector and animate it and have it work with swf export? If so would it work with switch layers? Then could I use the fill tool? Would I put the imported vector on an image layer or some other kind?
Thanks,
Ron

Unfortunately I am not familiar with Corel-Draw.
From Illustrator one can export “Illustrator Legacy” and choose “Illustrator 8”
or export as “EPS”.
In Moho choose File/Import/Adobe Illustrator File or EPS File.
(Moho puts the imported vector-drawings automatically on vector-layers -
which can be manipulated in any Moho way).
You might have to experiment a little with the Corel-Draw export settings
and see if Moho accepts the file.
Maybe someone with Corel-Draw would be so kind and give us her or his opinion.
