Is there any way to make Moho smoother when there are reference layers?

I have never bone reference layers with Vector, but I works with PSD. Reference layers make Moho slow! Is there anyone have any tips when working with reference layers? In my work! I avoid reference layers if possible, I use it only when there is no alternative way because I always feel slow when it working with bone reference layers.
