Is it possible to make changes to a character rig after adding smart actions

So I have been working on a character rig in Moho for a few weeks now in service to a client (I'm doing Colin Baker's Doctor Who). I've added in smart bones for the eyebrows, eyelids and head movements. After showing him what I've worked on so far he sent me some suggested changes to be made to the head of the character to resemble the actor more.
I made some changes to the eyebrows as was suggested but when I tried using the smart action bones on the face the eyebrows would revert to the previous shape or just get distorted entirely. Even when I go back to the beginning and try to copy the initial frame onto the first frame the new shape never sticks.

I'm at a loss on how to resolve this. Is there a way to reshape the points on the character rig and having them stick to the smart actions without simply deleting the smart actions and starting again from scratch?

I think it works as long as you don't add points to existing shapes, but you'll have to change some actions as well. Creating new shapes seems to work, but of course I have to create ney keys in all actions for these.

I work with a standard head setup for all characters, having all the same actions (tilt, eye brows etc). Each time I change the points position to resemble a new character I have to change the point movement keys inside the actions as well.
