Hollow character with different background inside

I've designed two characters, kind of ghostly, that come from another dimension and I would like for them to be see-through, BUT what you see inside their bodies is the other dimension. For that, I need to create a drawing with holes in it (no problem there), but the thing is I do not want to see the background I've set for that scene through those characters; instead I'd like to see another background I've created through them. Is this possible?

There's an easier way:
- create the hole/holes in the character as one extra layer, make it a mask
- set the top folder's masking to "hide all"

- character folder "hide all"
- - other dimension BG "mask this layer"
- - character "don't mask this layer"
- - mask
