This is the very first time I really need to use that motion graph, and it refuses to work, naturally.

In the manual it says "In graph mode, you can still add keyframes (use the popup menu through the right mouse button), delete keyframes, and move keyframes back and forth. In addition, you can move keyframes vertically - that is, change the value of keyframes."

Well, right click doesn't show any menu here, it only drags the graph around. Also the existing keys don't show.

v11 on Mac. Any ideas?

Try double clicking the timeline. That should add a keyframe.
At some point (maybe in version 11 or before), right click was defined to move the timeline instead of showing a menu. The manual is not up to date there, maybe.

No, that only brings up the menu in timeline view, not in motion graphg view.

Oh well. In the meantime I fixed what I needed by adding keys in each frame, using a hand-drawn guide.

Just tried in v11 Pro (Win), and seems to work OK.

Motion Graphs have 2 modes. Display and Edit. Display just shows pale colored graph lines (like pale green & pale pink) and no keyframes. Edit shows vibrant colored graph lines (like Red, Green, Blue) with keyframes.

I have a feeling that you are in Display mode. To go to Edit mode - double-click the Channel's icon. (single click - toggles on/off).

Also, if you are Motion Graphing points, then I think the Editable graphs will only show when you have a single point selected.
