layer visibility

I'm trying unsuccessfully to animate layer visibility. Just on/off. No fade.

As I recall in earlier versions of ASP, there was a visibility bar that one could adjust. I've been poking around for over an hour in 12 and I can't figure this one out.

Pls advise (and thanks in advance)

edit:
I think I found it. Is it that "visible" button that can be toggled off/no beneath the down arrow by the layer name? It works but if feels a bit awkward. Am I doing it the difficult way?

No, that's the button. There's also a checkbox in the Layer Panel which does the same.

you need to check the "allow animated layer effects" box in layer settings if you want to animate layer visibility / opacity.

I must be missing something. It seems to work fine w/o checking "allow animated layer effects" . I'll have to explore that function.

Thx

The "allow animated layer effects" is for other effects, like opacity, blur, etc.

yeah - my bad - the visibility checkbox works without "allow..."
