How would I "fade to black" without it being a sudden change by turning layers invisible and then back to visible? I'm trying to create a dream sequence where a character falls asleep and dreams about the big war and I can't figure out a smooth transition to fade out with(as well as fade back in with). any ideas?

1. Create a layer on top with a black rectangle covering all the frame.
2. Open layer tab, check "allow animated layer effects".
3. Set opacity to 0%, thus creating a key.
4. In some later frame, create a key for 100% opacity.
