Silly Walk Challenge

Hey, all. I thought I'd share my entry for Jazza's contest mentioned here: Jazza Silly Walk 2016 animation challenge

As it turned out, this was a good incentive to learn some of features in Moho Pro. I used pin bones for the joints which allowed me to enlarge the hands for perspective. The lower dress was animated entirely with a smart mesh. The shadow was simply a reference of the main rig; it was achieved by colorizing, blurring, and finally scaling the layer into position. Having the ability to see multiple layers on the timeline was incredible useful for timing the different parts of the body.

Other features used: Stroke exposure for the dress creases, patch layers for the elbows/joints, and smart bones to control the hair and upper body.

Overall, a fun project to work on...last year's contest had around 300 entries! I think I saw at least one Anime Studio entry in there. :)

I found the hardiest part was keeping to the stupid rules. 30 fps with a 60 frame max is only 2 seconds. A tad fast for a walk cycle. I could have used another 30 frames to get it right. That and I normally animate at 24 fps.
