AS 11 restricted to 2K?

I've started a new project in Scope and 4K, dimensions are 4096×1716. I've done stuff in TVPaint and exported to .mov via FFmpeg (which now is the only way in 64 bit). I can import this into Final Cut, same dimensions, and render in that size, too.
Now I did a scene in AS in 4096×1716 and tried to export. But I only got this warning:
Now it gets funny.
In AS 9.5, If I click OK I get a 2K render instead of the 4K I want.
In AS 11, the same question appears, I click OK, and get a 4K render! (And sometimes a messsage that the AS exporter crashed.)
Clearly this isn't good since FFmpeg doesn't have this restriction and the resulting .mov works just fine, and TVP 10.5 32 bit which still uses the old QT engine has no problem at all rendering to these dimensions.
Could someone with v12 on a Mac please test this?

May be a cross-platform issue? AS11 might only use what is available for both Mac and PC, and Quicktime doesn't support a lot on PC. Might try some other formats.

Doesn't help because there are no other video formats on a Mac.
I'm aware I could always render an image sequence, but this behaviour is unnecessary and inconsistent.

slowtiger, I agree that the behavior is inconsistent, but synthsin75 is right their are some limitations that prevent exporting movies that large. It is primarily on Windows. As much as we want to, we can't use FFmpeg because there are legalities there with using certain encoders, so for movie encoding we typically use the libraries that ship with the OS. On Mac, that is either QuickTime (QTKit) or AV Foundation depending on the preset you select.
With all that being said, there is a bug here especially since you got a 4K render in AS11. I am going to have one of our testers take a look.

Oh and BTW, the app throws that alert dialog if either the export width or height is greater than 4000. So Ultra HD (3960 x 2160) should export without complaint on Mac. I know that doesn't help you, but wanted to make it clear what the limitations in Moho 12.0 currently are.

OK, I think I can work with that right now. I haven't opened the manual for years now: are those limitations mentioned? They should, even on the website, especially if SM is aiming at professional studios now.

Slowtiger, sadly, they go the other route with Moho Pro 12 and say 4k is possible, but that simply isn't true here, they need to fix that in the next patch or update for sure.

I'm on Windows and the resolution limitation is not due to the operating system. It is usually a result of either the program or codec not supporting it. Some codecs don't support resolutions higher than 1920x1080. The Avid DNxHD codecs (which are cross platform, free, and comparable to ProRes) are limited to 1920x1080 but the new DNxHR ones (also free) can do 4K. I think they might be resolution independent but would have to double check on that. I've also used the Cineform codec which is resolution independent. Since I'm not on a Mac I don't know if ProRes is similar where some versions don't support resolutions higher than 1080. My day job is video production and there have also been some programs that don't support exporting above 1080 even if you have the right codecs. For Anime Studio Pro I have version 11 which should be able to do 4K. Even version 10 was listed as 9000x9000 being the max export resolution! I also can still render out a 4K avi even though I get the "Too large, have to to resize" dialog box in the process.

Probably not. BTW, our QA department logged a bug today (#38624). We will try and get this addressed for 12.1.

vealti: Thx, that's interesting.
I only care for the lossless codecs, because any larger dimensions don't make sense for editing or delivery. But I'm used to render some animation about 10.000 px wide, put that into AS and do the camera work there. If one program could do that, any other program using the same video framework should do it as well, or so I thought.

The project I worked with only used imported images and a small QT so far. So only when I imported a 4K QT into AS yesterday I noticed another bug: it doesn't get imported. All I get is distorted lines or a very ghosty image. I had to use image sequence import to get the scene done.
