Hello,

Have I got this right, please?

Outline = line connecting two or more anchor points – which may or may not have attributes applied, and which may be open or closed.
Curve = a synonym of Outline.
Shape = an outline/curve - BUT with attributes applied, and which may be open or closed.

Thank you for any help.

Perhaps this would relieve you from any further doubts....

Point is a basic unit of creation in AS.

Line between two points is a Curve/Path/Edge.
Attribute given to this line is Stroke (Outline).

Several points connected with closed curve form a Shape.
Attribute given to this shape is Fill.

Styles contain attributes for Stroke and Fill.

Thank you, Maestral.

So...
1) curve, path and edge are synonyms;
2) stroke and outline are synonyms;
3) fill doesn't have a synonym (thank goodness!);
4) shape is a closed path.

Please forgive me... may I just ask, how is it that in the ASP11 tutorial, an open path with three points is referred to as a "shape"?

I hope you appreciate that, for a beginner relying on a written tutorial, a clear understanding of the terms used is vital. :)

Your definition of 'shape' is correct. A shape is any applied fill and/or stroke.

Thank you, synthsin75!

Thank you all. Without your input over the last few (rather frustrating) weeks, I think I'd have given up. I'm finding ASP11 one of the most challenging programs I've ever learnt... and that includes Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Maya.

Oh, wait for it - just, wait for it - there goes the drawing with AS tools ,)))

Indeed, I was not precise in defining the Shape term. Thought that filled shape would be easier to memorize and distinct from Curve/Path/Edge.
