A revenant...

Hi there,

Long time no see. I was off for a long time, travelling on foot with my donkey trough South Europe. Now I am back and will go also back to animation. I see that AS 11 is out. And now I have 2 questions. yes I could search and read and scroll in order to find oit if they have already been answered. But since I am a lazy, selfish bitch, I just hope somebody will give me the answer here ;)

* Does AS11 now have disabled that bad behavior which consists in automatically selecting the whole shape when you just wanted to translate a point but missed it and hit the line between?

* If no, is there an actual script that bypass that issue ?

I had one for AS 8 and 9, but probably will need one new for AS11, if that issue isn't fixed.

Again sorry, to ask here, I hope you will perdon me!

A nice sunday to all !

Diana

Welcome back Diana!

I can't remember just exactly how point selection worked in the past few versions or if this is a change in 11.2 but the general behavior is ...

- Click and release on a shape or stroke and you select the whole shape.

- Click and hold the button down near or on a point and you grab just that point.

- Hold Control down to lasso a group of points.

The Transform Points and Transform Layer tools have changed too. Now there is a boundary box with handles that allow you to Move, Scale & Rotate without switching tools. I think these were added in version 10.

Hi Drumlug,

Thank you so very much for that info. Hm, seems that the issue is still on, but at least: "- Click and hold the button down near or on a point and you grab just that point."
is sort of a solution. Just a quetstion: WHICH button has to be hold down?

All in one: Is AS11 a good version, in your opionon?

Sorry it should've read - Click and hold the mouse button down near or on a point and you grab just that point. So it's a one hand action.

AS 11 is awesome. I can't imagine going back to version 9. Check out the videos at the Smith Micro site for the general overview. And then there's some more new features added in the 11.2 update. I'll link that thread below

Thank you drumlug, then I think I will upgrade. But holding the mouse button down is a bit difficult for me, I am working with a stylus and graphic tablett. :/ I might look if again, there is a script getting me rid of that problem.

I use a tablet/stylus sometimes too. Moving points is even quicker that way but you need to keep your other hand on or around the control key. You can still control to lasso points, or control and a quick flick to select nothing (quicker than reaching for Escape to deselect). But generally speaking you can avoid selecting the whole shape if you tap near the point you want to move. If you do hit the stroke, AS thinks you're trying to grab the whole thing. It took a little while to get used to it but it is quicker than the mouse in the long run

I don't think I have any user scripts installed that I actually use any more, but if you find one that helps with your method, post something here. I'll give it a try.

I never got used to that behavior. maybe its because I miss my target often and hit the line - and then "all select" -> need to deselect -> nerves exploding!
I had a script done by a guy for AS 8 and AS 9, it was a big relief. No matter where you clicked, it only selected the nearest point, which makes a lot more sense to me.
But I don't think that script works anymore in AS11. If it does, Ill give it to you, so you might try it.
