I've tried importing Photoshop files, jpegs and pngs.... none of the layer blending modes has any effect. Wah! Does anyone have a solution??

Oh, I get it! The blend modes only show up when you render a preview.... it would be nice to have the option of seeing them while authoring though. I've tried different display qualities, that doesn't help.

Immediate on-screen feedback makes sense in static image manipulation software, but I suspect it would cause a terribly slow frame rate for animation preview playback.

Yes, you need to render the frame to see the Blending mode effects.

That said, I recently noticed odd behavior with some of the Blending modes. For example, I needed a rim light effect on a characer and I had to paint a mask using transparency values to control Saturation and Luminosity. When I tried to paint the layers with RGB or grayscale values, it surprisingly had no effect in these modes. I think this is a bug because painting only with transparency values is a lot trickier than painting a basic gray scale image for a blending mode effect.
