I feel such a fool. I'm really struggling with ASP11.
Following the tutorial (2.1), I created two separate circles with the Draw Shape tool.Auto-weld, as instructed, is off.
I've dragged a circle so that one of its points is directly over one of the points in the other circle. Hit space bar. Nothing!
I've done this lots of times but I just can't get the two points to weld together to make a single double-circled object.
Before I give up completely - I found Adobe After Effects easier to learn! - please would someone kindly explain what I'm doing wrong?

Re: Cannot weld two circles
Welding works for curve tips. So it welds a curve's tip to another curve. When you have a circle, there is no tip because the circle is closed.
In order to weld two circles together, first you need to update to ASP 11.2. It's free, so just go to Help and look for "check for update"
After you update to 11.2 ...
1. Create two circles and select all the points in both circles
2. go to Scripts>Draw>Split Curve and set the dialog box to 6
3. Select one of the circles and click the "Select Points Tool"
4. In the select points tool menu, click the "Weld Crossings" button
The two circles will now be welded together.

Re: Cannot weld two circles
Hello dkwroot,
Thank you very much... all worked fine.
My concern is that the tutorial clearly states that I should overlap one point from each closed circle and press space bar. I suspected that it was wrong but decided to ask.
There are other errors in the tutorial, too... and in the videos I bought.
That's why I'm struggling.
Thank you once more.

Re: Cannot weld two circles
There's been some changes made in AS 11. To weld points now you use the Enter key.
But if you want, you can change it back to Spacebar welding if you go to Edit > Preferences > Tools and check the box that says "Classic point editing keyboard shortcuts"
What tutorials are you using now? There are tons of great (and FREE) tutorials to watch that still apply to version 11, but you may run into some features that have been updated from time to time. Welding is one of them. Check the manual and the forum before you let yourself get too frustrated with anything, or fork over cash for lessons that are covered elsewhere for free

Thank you, drumlug13!
I bought the ASP11 videos sold by SmithMicro but, strangely, most of them are actually ASP9 or 10... so it's a bit confusing. Confusion isn't beneficial when you're a beginner!
I'm also using the tutorial supplied with the program but, as I said above, it either contains errors or, more likely, features/processes that aren't appropriate to the program version that it's supporting.
I am finding this whole experience unpleasant.
The only thing I'm not finding unpleasant is the super people on this forum.

Re: Cannot weld two circles
Hang in there and be patient. The learning curve is quite a bit steeper for version 11.2 than it was when I started with version 7, but trust me, that's a good thing. Anime Studio has improved so much in the last few years.
Generally the PDF manual that you can open in the Help > Tutorials tab will be the most up to date source for training. I think it took me a week to get through the manual the first time, doing the tutorials as I went. But it was worth it. But sign up for email alerts and watch for the webinars too. They usually go pretty in depth with the new features.
