Try rendering to images first, it might be a codec issue. If that doesn't work, you could try rendering 2-4 layers at a time and then composite.

can u explain this in other words?

rendering 2-4 layers at a time then a composite??

my scene has 6 fully rigged characters (yes i know, a lot) i could be super wrong but are u saying theres a way to do them separate and then add them together?

thanks for the response sorry for not being smart

Yes, render the characters separately and then combine them into a final render. Try rendering just two characters at a time to a png sequence and see if it works.

Workaround: render characters 1 - 3 as video on transparency, then render chars 4 - 6 the same way. Create new project, import both videos, render.
AS 9.5 MacPro Quadcore 3GHz 16GB OS 10.6.8 Quicktime 7.6.6
AS 11 MacPro 12core 3GHz 32GB OS 10.11 Quicktime 10.7.3
Moho 13.5 iMac Quadcore 2,9GHz 16GB OS 10.15
Moho 14.1 Mac Mini M2 Pro OS 13.7.6

Are you using Pro?

If so, you can use ASP's Layer Comps to output your passes for compositing. This is what I typically do in my personal projects and at the animation studio where I work.

Layer Comps can be accessed from the right-most button at the top of the Layers panel. After setting up your Layer Comps (i.e., Char, Sky, BG, MG, FG, Particles, etc.,) use Batch Export and go to the Render Layer Comp drop down. From there, you can render each Layer Comp individually or select All to render all of the Layer Comps as separate passes.

Rendering directly to a single movie file can be resource heavy, especially with complex scenes, because it has to keep all that data in RAM during the process. It's generally a lot faster and more reliable to render separate layers as image sequences with embedded alpha channels.

When I have all my layers ready, I'll composite the layers in Fusion or After Effects for final output to editorial. If it's an especially gnarly comp, I might even render a 'flattened' frames version first and then compile those frames to a final movie file.

And even if you're not rendering from ASP for compositing, rendering to an image sequence is still far less taxing on computer.

You can ask here. That way, others who may have the same questions can also learn, and experienced users can jump in and add their thoughts. :)
