Selecting and deselecting points not working?

I'm trying to bind points to multiple objects and I can not deselect points by re dragging over with the selection box or lasso. Is this a bug in the version 10? If it's on purpose is there a way to correct it or make it so I can select and deselect multiple points without having to start over every time I make a mistake? It was really useful when dealing with a lot of points.

Shift modifier to add to selection and Alt modifier to subtract from selection.

No problem. That change took me a while to get use to as well.
