Hi,
Does anyone know where I can find the link to Mike's video on motion tracking? I think it came out in with version 7?
Thanks

Ok....haven't used motion tracking feature for a while....it's quite frustrating the way it just drops out and stops tracking an object and you have to keep going back to reset the target.
Are there any hints from anyone on ways to stop it doing this?

I don't use motion tracking, so you can take what I'm about to say with a huge grain of salt (or completely ignore it, of course!)
I'm assuming that the program is "losing" the motion focus against the background so it can't track movement any more. I would make a copy of the film and try to increase the contrast or colour balance so that the program can follow focus properly (or better, at least), and then swap out the movie before exporting; maybe even blank out the movie and add it again afterwards in a video editor.
Failing that, if this is an intermittent problem, isolate where the focus is being lost, export that sequence as png images, and dick about with them (technical term) in Photoshop so the focus can be regained, and re-import them in situ.
This is all I got, and it's pure guesswork!
Good luck.

Hi jahnocli,
I think what's happening is that the movement of the black dot is too quick for the motion tracking to catch....
The video was a test done in Anime Studio using vectors and a few black dots, exported to a movie then re-imported and motion tracking applied to the black dots. I think the movement is too quick in parts for the tracking...and it loses the target.
I'll just keep playing with it...it's an experiment after all so not important. Just testing the limits of motion tracking
Cheers

Looks like you found 'em! Didn't reckon on speed of movement, of course. You could try using video interpolation, like
Motion Perfect to add some more reference points. Good luck.

Hi jahnocli,
I tracked down the problem ...well...MOST of the problem, as there are still small drop out issues but when I processed the video clip with the motion in it in Vegas, Vegas auto added motion blur to the clip...so when a quick movement took place the colour on the target changed so the tracking area would just let go of the pixels and stop. As soon as I took out the blurring, it tracked no probs
I'll take a look at Motion Perfect too though...thanks

Good to hear. If I ever need motion tracking, I hope I'll remember this thread...!
