BioShock - Big Daddy Free Download

Hi All,

I'm in the process of making a Big daddy character from Bioshock. So far I've got the legs looking fairly good (see screen grab).

Image

I did suffer a small set back of animating on the mainline rather than in a smart bone action, idiot. Not sure if there is any way to copy across? The Vector work is going well though, hopefully he'll be finished and rigged with styles, Smartbone actions, labelled bones, bone constraints, etc, etc within the next few days (or that's the plan).

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated, I am using vector layers within groups within the overall bone group which will probably affect reverse compatibility (is this good practice?). I'm using version 9.5.

The Final Character Will be uploaded for download from my blog:

Started work on the vectors for the helmet (needs a lot more work), mainly trying to sort the colours for the styles.

Leg Bones working well too.

Bioshock - Big Daddy vector work is nearly finished and ready to start on the rigging soon. This model should be much better than the previous uploads on my blog as it was not created for a specific animation short but generic use.

I really want to get this finished soon so I can demonstrate the use of characters as sprites in a games using either Game maker studio, Pygame or Java (the tutorial will probably be with game maker studio as this is what I am most familiar with).

Download will be available at: http://biggyrichanimestudio.blogspot.co.uk/

Model made in Anime Studio version 9.5

Man, I find it really tough to get vector graphics to look that good. Probably because I am not good at drawing to begin with.

The Big Daddy looks really good.

Thank you, the feed back is much appreciated. I've made the drill arm fatter as advised by SazerLite on DeviantArt. I've also added the back arm with open hand and fist in a switch layer (could do smart bones but feel like I'm already over running with this to start adding in yet more rigging work, so we'll see).

I always like to spend time resource gathering to help me with reference sketches for the body parts which I do in Manga Studio (the newer version has a great 3D poseable figure to helps massively with proportions). Once I've got the sketches this helps me get the main vectors laid down before I begin tweaking. That's what works for me anyway.

Looks really good. But before you start animating I suggest you adjust the bones.

The pivot point of any bone should be at the position of the joint. Look at your foot: is that the position of the joint? I'd put that in the bottom left corner of that ankle buckle. Same goes for the hip: I'd place hat joint much higher.

Cool thanks for the advice, I'll shift the bones around. I hadn't started fully rigging yet I had a few bones on to test the legs.

BioShock - Big Daddy is here!

Finally finished!

Big Daddy is here finally. I did end up doing smart bone action for the hand rather than switch layer. Drill action is linked to smart bone and a switch layer for the head lights. I have included a walk cycle which I think works well.

Background is not included in the main file but I will add as a separate download if requested. Let me know how you get on with it.

As always feedback is welcome.

On to the next project!

Nice character and rig. I took the freedom to modify it a little and make a new walkcycle. I don't know how that character walks in the game, but I imagine something like this :)

That has a great look to it, reminds me a bit of the robots in the dragonball Wii game (if anyone has seen them). Very cool

Good stuff glad the rig was good, walk cycle is much better. I remember seeing a tutorial where you lock the feet in reverse is this still the best way?
