jumping shadowing (not a new dance)

For the life of me can somebody please explain why I get a jump in the layer shadowing of my group?

There's the Loch Ness Monster, area 51, then there's this.

I looked everywhere for days, even behind frame 0 way back for every layer within.

It's a very simple element, here's the file. If you export from 135 to 228 as quicktime with alpha, you'll see the yellowish shadowing jumping at about 2 secs in

(It's only one mb)

Are there no kind soul to take a look at this little file?

I posted the entire video in the last reply to my original post "help with dolly out move" in the Share section. So you can take a look, it's the wooden sign in the first scene.

Same type of glitches happen all over the place in the shot at around 40sec. I just can't find the cause and I wish I could fix that before delivery.

Thanks

The images in that file are way too large and take forever to render. Maybe you should post that render yourself. Your video looks like you are compositing this into the scene, with depth of field, so the problem could be in the compositing.

I'm just realizing now how large they are. I didn't feel it on my system but maybe it's part of the pb. I could have easily reduce them to a quarter. Thanks for pointing it out.

In the video, I gave up using depth of field after a few tries on asp and did all focus changes manually in compositing.

Here it is with the two images resized.

So it's a small project file and two Pngs for only that element. Focus change is not present here. The pb is about the "outline" jump at about halfway. (Which you can still see in the end video)

Thanks

Well, I rendered it here. No problems. So I have to assume it happens in compositing.

When I export only this element as a quicktime with alpha, I get the jump in the shadowing.

Only after do I composite in another soft so it's not compositing I'm sure. Perhaps does it have to do with my export settings. Did you export it on alpha yourself?

Thanks for your time by the way.

This image may give you a better idea. It only concerns the yellow shadowing that's set around the top left side of the whole group.

The difference is barely visible here but in the video it really feels like a jump and I can help noticing it.

I d really like to find the answer cause it happens at other places as well.

I just tried many different settings.

with and with alpha, without extra smooth, or without "do not premuliply" and more. Always the same thing.

I'll try exporting it without the shadowing, importing that video, and adding the shadowing to that. I'll be damned if that fails.

You probably DO want to premultiply alpha since you are compositing. If that fails, I'd disable multi-threaded rendering.

I always learned for years to avoid premultiplying apha whenever possible for transparency as it sometimes give weird outlines and will not be friendly to some softs.

Anyway I tried both your suggestions with no success (but not both unchecked at the same time).

Of course i confirm, re-importing the shadowless element and re-exporting it with shadowing works but it's a very sad workaround.

Thanks
