Smartbones and masking

I scoured this forums for at least 1/2 an hour, and could not find an answer to my problem. I am using Anime Studio Pro 9.5, and am making a character with sheer black clothing. To do this, I created groups with the sheer black fabric on top (50% opacity, where "Mask this layer" was selected), and the skin layer underneath (Where "Add + to mask" was selected.) In the group layers, "Hide All", and "Mask this layer" were selected. I created smartbones actions, but when I use the manipulate bones tool, the actions don't register. Smartbones actions in other layers that did not have masking work fine, so I suspect masking is an issue. I also clicked "Allow nested layer control" on Depth sort in the bones layer, and "Enable animated layer order" in the group layer menu as some people that seemed to have similar problems on the forum had tried this, neither worked. Hope to hear from someone!

It's hard to understand what's going on from the description. Would help to see the file if you could post it.
I use masking in sub groups with smart bones all the time and have no troubles.

How would I go about uploading the file? Sorry, I'm a bit new here. On the post reply screen, I see a tinypic option, but it only has image and video options, I don't know if that would work with .anme files?

You need to use a 3rd party site but for tonight just right click on the anime short cut and open with notepad or any other text program and select all and copy, now send vern or me a message and paste the text into the message and we will look at it.

The text file of my .anme file has beyond 1 million characters, and the pm limit is 60,000, so it won't send...

You need to release all the group layers from the parents bones and then you need to go into each layer in the grps and bind them separately. Here is a thread Wes helped me with that is similar.

I did as you recommended (and looked at the link), however there was no change to the action in question. Any more ideas?

When you make a smart bone, move on down the time line to 4 seconds for example so the points will move smooth. Watch the webiner on 9.5 it will show you how to use smart bones. After you watch that video I think you will have a better understanding on what you need to do to get the character rigged.

Sorry for late reply. I am watching the video, hope to finish soon, but it's long. The problem was that I was testing the Smartbones at frame 0, not frame 1 (or later), so I guess it was a user error. The actions work fine at frame 1 and after. Thanks for your help! Can you please remove your dropbox link to the unfinished file earlier in this thread, as the problem is solved? Thanks again.
