hello guys!

i was wondering if there is a possibility to blur a layer so it looks less "sharp"
and gets more this kind of "in the far background" look

You might try enabling depth of field in project settings and then insuring z depth of your background layer is set back... let me know if this helps.

Use "blur" in layer properties. Tip: Render the result and re-import (and switch off the original BG layers), thus saving your computer processing power when rendering the animation.

If it is an AS composite render the scene and use P'shop to blur. You might also want to add a few other touches and appreciate the extra control in P'shop [or Gimp or..] - *then* re-import.

Also, in Layer Settings, you could enter a number in the Blur Radius box. If you want it to change during the animation, you could check the allow animated layer effects box and set keyframes for the value in the Blur Radius box.
