i downloaded the beta, and i dont know if this is a bug but when i press ctrl+ J (select connected) the timeline disappears instead of selecting all the connected dots...

Select Connected in version 4.x and 5.x is ctrl+] (square bracket) not ctrl+J (letter "Jay") - although they look very similar in some fonts.

I usually use the Tab key for Select Connected.

Ctrl+J in 4.x is used to change to wireframe view - in 5.0(beta) it toggles the timeline window on and off, as you've discovered.
