masking line bug fix at AS9

Post by ahzra »

i dont know if i am the first one to notice that anime studio 9 has a new feature that fix the line bug when masking.

thats what you should do ...

if the line appear between the mask layer and the masked layer ...then go to the mask layer and double click on it.. and on mask tab enable the new option which (expand mask by a pixel) ... watch your render again you will notice that the line will disappear

This is great! BUT isn't this a bug that should have been fixed for previous versions?! I'm having a very hard time paying $100.00 bucks for a bug fix and smart bones. I'm used to AS upgrades having amazing new features and this like physics and what not but this release.............mmmmmm........Anime studio is still by FAR the best animation program I've ever seen but version 9 is kind of a let down. The smart bones are cool but and I'd love to have that freaking bug fixed but ALL timeline features and speed enhancements the other features are only going to get the high end users geared up! New to AS and hobbyists like me can't and won't see a huge bump from 8 to 9. High end users will love it for sure! I'll wait and see what they got in store for 10! I'll just have to keep using my little tricks to hide those freaking lines!!!!!! :) Still got mad love for AS though!!!! LOL!

Hey all,
this masking line fix was introduced to AS8 (and still doesn't completely fix that bug in every situation) so don't upgrade to AS9 if this is the only thing that excites you.

Guyver, I'm surprised at what you're saying - AS9 is a huge leap in many workflow enhancements than AS8 - and even if it weren't Smart Bones are absolutely worth the upgrade alone. Regardless of your experience level, there is NO situation where they will dont both shave time off your work and add polish to it! still, perhaps I'm blinkered, if you consider me a 'high end user' :P I think I'm just a geek who loves all the new shiney toys.

Doesn't this only happen when line width is 0? Try setting line width to 2 or so and see if the same thing happens.
Sorry for bad animation

seems to happen when a line is 'hidden'
which is no good if you want the line hidden!

What will probably happen Funks is that I'll come across a tutorial (probably one of yours) :) that will show me something that will make me buy AS9 and BELIEVE me I'm all about faster, better workflow and shortcuts. I'm sure I'll end up getting it eventually but I think I was thinking of new users when I was looking at the new features video. For an absolute noobie it doesn't look inviting. You and I know how awesome it is to have a better visual flexible interface with the timeline but for someone who has never used an animation program that might look completely crazy.

You know me man! I LOOOVVEE AS! I know the improvements are great! I was just hoping for some advancements in content creation tools I suppose.

well, yes, if you don't know any better it don't seem much improved :P
If you can hold off until more channels are added to Smart Bones then (...you're a stronger man than I...and...) you'll perhaps see more benefit.

But even for the uninitiated, rigging is much easier and more intuitive with smart bones than any other previous workaround for joint volume, plus you get the added benefit of control bones for facial rigging and much more :)
