Reducing Redundant Vector Points in Text

Countless vector points are created as I'm drawing freehand. Once I lift my pen from the tablet, most of the points disappear and only the "important" ones are kept. This greatly improves performance when I'm working on layers with a lot of detail.
When I add text, however, the redundant vector points are kept. At least 70% of these points could be removed. I can spend a ton of time removing the redundant vector points, or I can spend a ton of time waiting every time I make a change to the layer (because performance suffers when so many points are on the same layer). Is there a better option?
I'd love to see the redundant vector points from text removed just like they are when I'm drawing freehand. It seems like since the freehand points are removed, the technology must be there to remove redundant points from other shapes such as text. Does anyone know of a script or something I could use to achieve this? I'd pay handsomely for one!
(Less important: It would also be cool to have a threshold value, which would allow more or less points to be removed. The number of "redundant" points may vary from one font to another.)
I don't know how fonts and text are handled behind the scenes, but would it be feasible to create a font which would be seen as requiring less vector points when I work in AS Pro? That investment may save me a lot of time going forward.
Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading. :)
