How do I bind points on a shape?

So I'm trying to rig up a character here. Half of it is based on Selgin's webinar, the other half is based on studying that alien guy the program automatically hooks you up with when you boot it up. I noticed that there are certain points to his limbs that arn't effected by the manipulated bone aspect. In other words, the whole of the limb moves except for a line at the end. How do I lock random parts of the shape in place? That could solve all my limb issues once and for all.

I really hope this question made sense.

ok, what I'm really trying to say here is that I have no clue how the Bind point option works. Everything I've tried so far has resulted in my entire image getting mutilated. Is there a decent video out there that can properly explain the trick to binding points?

Binding points depends on the order of how you do it.

You have a bone and a vector layer.
1. Select the bone you want to bind points to.
2. Select the vector layer and the "bind points" tool.
3. Carefully select all points you want to bind (with shift), then hit "blank".
4. Go back to frame #0.
Repeat.

It just needs the right order and constant switching between layers. If everything gets fucked up, there's "release all points" in the menu so you can start again.
