variable ink lines - oops!

Hi all

I posted a question under the 5 features forum but after playing around tonight I am starting to understand this variable stroke option a bit more I think....Can someone chime in here and tell me I am on the right path?

I dont know why I thought at first that variable ink lines were an effect you could put on link after the fact but I did. So I was pulling my hair out trying to apply variance to my already done artwork. The links were always too thick and not quite what I wanted.

So the freehand tool and a tablet is where the variances does come in right? I seemed to get this working all right tonight.

So do I have this right now? Ink variance is not an effect but a way of drawing?

It would be cool to have it as an effect though :) does that warrant a feature request? :)

Hello Jeremy,

Variable line width can be created in two ways.
  • Using a pressure-sensitive pen/tablet
  • Modifying line width after the fact
I've created a little SWF tutorial for you on modifying the line width after the fact.

Regards, Myles.

Hey Myles

Thank you very much for that.

The point level variation was particularly interesting.

I guess what I was doing was modifying the ink line after the fact by changing the styles. BUT when I applied an ink effect like the angled pen for example the stroke always got to wide or big for me which I assume is a result of the effect.

Anyway your help is very much appreciated and I will continue to mess around with all the tips you have shown :)

Cheers,
