Can I create evenly spaced objects with particle gen?

I am trying to make a parking lot with lights and have a character walk through it and up to a building.

I created a particle group and created a "street light" as a vector layer...set up how many I wanted and select evenly spaced option--but the lights are not distributed evenly--still looks a bit random and a bit clumpy.

Can the particle generator do this or do I need to create a group and create separate layers for each light and manually adjust the z-depth of each?

I think I saw a replicate/copy script at some time, just cant find it.

Particles are not the best for that kind of use I am afraid.

Use the grid.

You can create a guide layer first, with some object duplicated and evenly spaced on the grid, then rotate this layer in 3D to get the perspective you want. Create a new layer on top and place your lights.

Pro tip: don't get obsessed with precision. Real life isn't perfect. Choose a style where mistakes and imperfections add to the experience.
