I was toying with flash movie export and it seems activex always has to be downloaded for playback. Can I play swf movies without going online?

You should be able to just open a SWF file directly in an HTML browser, assuming you have the flash plugin installed on that browser. If I just doule click an SWF it automagically just opens in an SWF viewer and I can watch it. Is this SWF doing anything other than just playing an SWF? It is rying to play an FLV file perhaps?

wizaerd, thanks for replying. I'm also going to look up "flv". I installed "Swiff" to play the movies. Web animation is an area I'll have to learn more about as I continue my 2D education in AS.

When I bought ASP early this year I had no clue animation was as involved as it is. I respect any accomplished animator no matter what the platform.
On my own it would take years to learn what I've learned in a few months in this forum. I would have given up and moved on to something easier. I've gained a valuable skill.

FLV is a Flash Video file, and typically there's a SWF wrapper around it, where the FLV loads and plays through a SWF player as opposed to viewing it directly.

And yeah, I too thought animation was much simpler than it is, and I've gained a great deal of respect for those that have fine tuned their skills to create great animations. However, I'll also state as you do more and more of it, it does come easier and doesn;t seem as complicated as I once thought it was.

afaik AS doesn't export FLV, so that's not the problem - but assuming you have flash installed properly you 'should' just be able to drag it into a browser window to play it...

funksmaname, your link points to the swf player that I downloaded and installed. It's useful. It has pause/play controls. It also displays frame rate and file size.
