I'm a newbie and have got as far as "Designing a Character and Walk Cycle" starting on page 380 of the Users Manual. Having created "My First Character" and added it to a new project as instructed. The manual reads: "7. Click OK to exit the Character Wizard. Your character now appears in the scene. Press the Play button and you will see the character walking in the centre of the scene....." I'm afraid it doesn't in my case. I have searched the online Tutorials to no avail so far. Can anyone help ?

The manual is wrong. Don't know why it says that, but to make your character walk here's what you do. After exiting from the CW, go to the window menu at the top and choose the action window from the sub-menu. This will open the action menu window, you will see the default actions like walk, jump, wave, kick listed. Select the view you want the action for and go to a frame other than zero. Click once on the walk action in the action menu and at the top of this menu you will see two icons, one for insert copy and one for insert reference. Click either one of these, now you can press play and see the character walk.

Many thanks jonbo. I had already replied (now deleted) saying that it still didn't work. Even in the Tutorial 5.6 which I found I could still not see the Actions Window. (see pages 141/2 of the User Manual). I even uploaded a screenshot to Vimeo.com (which I use for videos). But then I played around with my screen resolution. That wasn't the answer, but when I reloaded the Tutorial I had to adjust the borders because it was too small for the screen. Lo and behold the Actions Window put in an appearance - right at the bottom of the screen and had to be dragged into a viewable position. I'll leave my original screenshot for you to see for a couple of days - it will be at http://vimeo.com/28926308 the password is wolves but don't press the play button or it will go out of focus (I have no idea why). Thanks again.

Hey Pete, are you on PC or MAC? Because I don't see the action window and it should be there and I don't see the timeline which should also be there unless you closed it out. I seem to remember a bug with using a shortcut to open the program that would hide tools when you use the shortcut on MAC. Try going to the root folder and opening it there.
