script request: hide selected & show all

I recently did an animation where I had a bunch of content on one layer. After awhile it got kind of messy/difficult to isolate my selections. My Illustrator muscle memory kept reaching for the "hide selected" shortcut. Would this and a "show all" counterpart be a difficult script to write?

I promise I searched the forum for this before posting.

Hey Gnaws, would this script idea be like using the select shape tool to choose a shape then CTR+SHIFT+H to hide it and then CTR+SHIFT+S to show it again or do you mean something different?

Hey jonbo - you know, I can never get that to work. All I see is "Show All Shapes" option. Am I doing something wrong?

edit - Why yes, I am. As you said, you have to use the select shape not select points tool.
