After seeing Technotise....

I want to work with somebody on a short

Tarantino immediately came to mind with visions of arthouse with some 70s funk in the background mixed with a little noir...

I'm thinking like maybe a 3:00 minute short in total- opening, and credits so maybe like 2:00 total animation

this is just a creative endevour for those that want to experiment

Also I've never worked with another animator but I want to try

If you're bored or have some spare time and are curious or creative lemme know

Storyboard so far- Will add the text later

When I first read that I thought you wanted to get Tarantino to help you with your short. :)

Actually, AnimationTaxi could probably put you in touch with him...

Lol! nope- just a tarantino style animation

ROFL i'd be going places if I could just call up Quentin and do an animation for him

I'm afraid I'm of no use to you either but I'm really curious to see how you get to your final animations.... Based on your story board images I can already feel the action, very stylised, atmospheric..

I hope you find someone to join you and give something to you but if you can update this thread with your progress I for one will following closely.

cheers

I recommend working on the storyboards a bit more as I find it hard to follow the action. By coincidence SvenFoster started a storyboard thread under Miscellaneous Chit-Chat:

Storyboarding intro

Also, here's a direct link to a longer Sherm Cohen video that covers the basics of storyboards:
Sherm's Online Storyboard Class Replay"The KEY to Powerful Storyboards"

It's an teaser for his dvd program, but there's a lot meat in this video nonetheless.

Can't help just now, but I'll watch your progress with great interest. Good luck! :)

Ha neeters beat me to it... By pure coincidence it was kellz thread here that prompted me to go in search of the pipe line for creating something more than a walktest etc.

Apart from being jealous that kellz can not only draw humans they can pose them I was jealous that I'm not accomplished enough to put myself forward...

...so turning the -ve into a +ve I've started to think more seriously about doing something from scratch all the way through; script - post prod. Treating each step as a job in its own right...
No idea what or how many years it will take me to do 5secs of anim ;)

Anywayz back to the vids linked by neeters.. I thought they were pretty good..worth a look unless your a totally harded pro.
again.. watching this thread with anticipation.

cheers Sven

Thanks for the info I'm a total noob when It comes to this professional stuff- I've not taken any classes except for basic cartooning when I was 12 so I'm a little behind

these are the next couple "storyboards"

I'm mostly a writer so I write the dialogue or scenes and then just go to drawing rough sketches- everything else is pretty much done on the fly which is easy since I'm the only person doing it

They look great as well :D reads like a movie, great angles and such.

The Sherm links, seemed to put every keyframe onto a sketch and the animator just gets from A to B. you look like its more of a camera shot type thing? Is that true or is it the style of Anime to have more poses and less movement(if that makes any sense)

Either way as a one man band I think its more realistic to put the shot as you know what is happening in it. No point in creating more work for the sake of it..
If you are sending the storyboard to an animation house then I guess you cant leave much to interpretation else your liable to get some expensive mistakes.

So I've noticed

Aogo- the guy that did that high quality japanime in this thread

viewtopic.php?t=19652

is going to help me

I think even if its a one man show It would behoove one to get into the habit of doing it like Sherm has it just because once you do work with someone it'll just come as habit

the funny thing is I'm going to temporarily scrap this cartoon because another Idea just hit me

something like FLCL or K-ON! if you've ever seen those anime cartoons

Wow.. I feel like I've just been slapped.

I dont think you need to finish it.. the music is sweet and the imagery has to be watched... its like an animatic on caffiene ;)

I've been recently side tracked.. I was starting to feel happy with a style I was working on(always humour.. dont know anything else) but then I watched some old ren and stimpy cartoons and remembered why I love toons... overdone expressions and dodgy sound effects... My stuff is far to sensible.

anyhoo, back to your caffiene vid.. I think its going to be awsome.. get cracking ;)

lol

you're lucky- humour is the hardest thing for me, not sure why- I guess I'm just a serious kind of person which is kind of annoying

that and trying to come up with a plot...then again- if i do the FLCL or School rumble route I can make it as random as possible which is freeing

Lets call it "dark and atmospheric" ;)
