I need to animate a circle, which breaks open at the top and then animates into line. I've gotten close, but can't get the top to break open to form into a line. Rather it stretches and looks weird. Thanks for any help anyone can give. gb

Not sure if this is what you want, and it is a little crude, but it might do it for you!

If you started with the circle, what did you do to separate the point at the top so that it could open? If you started with the line to reverse engineer, how did you get it into a circle from the line? Thanks, Gregjavascript:emoticon('')

I'm guessing;
start with circle...
split curve into plenty of points. [script->draw->split curve]
delete an edge [D key and click a line segment]
Add a new point [A key and drag] or move the point to line up with the original (but make sure auto weld isnt on.
that should do it.. Might need to create shape again
for the stroke

I created the circle, then, as SvenFoster mentioned, split the curve, selected the 2 top curves then copied them, then deleted the curves.
Then I pasted the curves, connected one side, then moved the opposite point up a bit.
Then pasted a second time, then connected the other side.
I moved the unconnected points so the whole thing made a nice circle.
I animated using Fazek rotate point tool, moving the center of rotation each time.

I was bored so spent 10mins just for fun.. not as slick as Mr GC's (need to find a decent mov to giv maker on the mac).
Think I needed more horizontal movement on the ends before completing the last part of the move... anyhoo it was just for fun

I only install a few scripts, Fazek tools in definitely one of them!
Yes, you can import several video types in photoshop, and it produces rather small file size for animated GIFs compared to other converter I used.

Another way I could have done the open circle would have been to draw a circle, split it with a value of 3, delete all the edges on one side except the one on top, select the last control point on the side that was deleted, make it peak then drag it up 10 units, select the whole shape, copy/paste it, flip it horizontally then connect the point at the bottom.
Quick open at the top circle, then you animate.
