Layer offsets from bone

Hi,
Noob here.
I am having difficulty with binding a bone to an arm.
I have drawn one arm on two layers.
I have split the character out wide (as per the manual) and inserted the bones following the manual's instructions.
When I use the offset-bone tool to regroup the character, the lower arm travels wide and to the left of the lower arm bone.
Manipulating the lower arm bone sets the corresponding lower arm layer moving in a matching arc that is offset from the bone.
The other limbs work fine.
If I click on a layer in the layers window, the character jumps back to the split position, with the lower arm layer perfectly aligned with the corresponding bone.
I have tried the bind layer tool, and the bind points tool to solve this. Neither help.
I am loving Anime Studio Debut but feeling hugely frustrated. Worst thing is this was working on an earlier save, which I deleted :-(
Any help? (Don't mind the gnashing of teeth noise...)

Hello Filmfool.

Are you setting up your character on frame 0?

Have you checked the bone influence of your rig?

Maybe if you could post your file we could have a look and see better!

This sounds like that layer has been moved in the Z axis. With that layer selected, click on the translate layer tool and look at the top of the screen , you should see the coordinates for the x,y,z axis' they all should be zero. If the z is different hit the reset button next to the coordinates or make them all zero.

Thanks for the help. :D

It was the Z axis. I had thought it might be that because of the offset arc of the movement. Last night I tried to set it manually to '0' on that layer, but without hitting the 'reset' key.

This time I hit 'reset' on all of the layers as per Jonbo's instructions. That sorted the problem out.

BTW, what does the little red dot next to the layer name in the layer window stand for?

the red dot means the layer is flash optimized (so it will not export multiple times over an animation i think) - using layer translation tools keeps it optimised, but as soon as you do any point motion the dot will dissapear... it's just a swf output filesize thing.

I also have to tell you I have subscribed to your YouTube channel. I am so looking forward to getting into the animation in a bigger way as soon as the pressure of work is off me. Your tutorials look amazing!
