Hello everyone.
Just posted a second video tutorial on my blog.
This one is about FK IK and capricorn33 FKIK script.
I think it goes a little fast at time, but i left it that way, please let me know if it is a bother!
I would like comments or suggestions, or both.
It is getting easier, maybe not better, but definitely getting the hang of it.
Next one will be a walk cycle, and maybe a re-do of selgin backward lock technique.

hey Gilles,
Nicely done - I've never tried this script... I will check it out!
I suggest you link to scripts you use in the tutorial - it makes it easier for people to find
All the best.

Gilles,
Another great tutorial! And thanks for bringing that script to my attention and explaining FK and IK.
I do have a question when you move the pelvic bone of the skeleton at 4.58 using IK. When I do that, the bone rig just moves without bending, leaving the body artwork static.
What am I missing?
Cheers,
Shanty

Just watched both videos - awesome! I've never seen masking explained so well yet quickly. Thanks for posting these!

There are 3 layers in the file, the one named skeleton ik has the feet locked, so the pelvis goes down but not the feet, you also need to use the manipulate bone tool, as mentioned.

Excellent Gilles. I looked at this script when Cap33 first posted it, but I passed on it as he said it was a WIP. It seems to work very well. Watching this tute and applying it to your aim at demo, I can see how this would be easier than the backward bone lock technique. Thank you for the tutorial.

You're welcome jonbo!
Selgin's technique is a very ingenious one, but it is a workaround. Using these scripts give, in my opinion, a stronger and much simpler way to solve the locking feet problem!
And yes, the scripts work really well as they are.
I have put links to the scripts on the blog page!

I changed the resolution of my blog, made it 800 px wide instead of 660 px, and made the vids 550 px wide instead of 410.
Is that better for anyone?

Yes, well, I'm still not finished with it, there are still some small bugs here and there...
it doesn't completely work on frame 0, for starters...
...and I am planning to develop the "hybrid" function of it to a more complete state so it becomes possible to easily switch between FK and IK control on *ALL* bones, even those inside the IK chains. When THAT is done and the remaining bugs are fixed the tool will be completely finished.
I just haven't had the time to get around to do all that work yet... I'm very busy with other stuff at the moment.
BUT - as it is - which Gilles also demonstrates in his excellent tutorial - it's functioning well and is usable even if it technically still is a work in progress.
Thanks for the tut, Gilles! Great job!
(But don't forget to give credits to heyvern too! My scripts are a development built on his original aimbone script! )

Thanx Giles, very well done, and makes me want to try that script. One small suggestion, you mention how this makes a walk cycle so much better and easier, ti'd be good if you demonstrated that as well. While creating a walk cycle of your own in the tutorial would help people see how and why this script really is helpful.

Hello wizaerd.
I am working on a full fledge walk cycle video tutorial using those same scripts as we speak.
It will be a 3 parter and the first part will introduce the differences between regular IK and the FKIK solution those scripts offer.
Hopefully I will post it tomorrow!

Hey Gilles! thanks so much. And to Capricorn 33 as well.
first the really dumb / irrelevant question - what did you use to make the sub-titles? (I find it a real pain doing them with what I use, but I've been too lazy / busy to try new approaches...)
And... is there any significance that, in the demo file from Cap33, the .trg bones are constrained to zero rotation?
Cheers

Hello hayasidist.
I use Camtasia studio for all my video tutorials, actually create the sub-titles then record voice overs using them.
Not sure what you mean by zero rotation in capricorn33 demo file, none of the bones are set to zero by default, nor are mine for that matter, could you clarify!
Glad you liked the tutorial!
