There are a myriad of tutorials both on youtube and linked here in these forums. A good search would surely yield some useful results.

There is no "right way" to rig a character. This can be done dozens of different ways. I'll tell you how I *usually* do mine. First, I have a separate layer for each limb (2 arms, 2 legs) the torso and the head. So my characters usually have six layers. I just find it easier to work the major actions like this.

I have the main bone layer for the torso, and five other bone layers inside that one. The images for left arm, right arm etc. should be nested within their respective bone layers.

So now we have a hierarchy: main skeleton layer with torso images and five other bone layers inside; each of the bone layers would have relevant images inside that.

Next, I decide where the main centre of gravity is. Usually, this is the hip area. Starting at the cocyx or thereabouits, draw the first bone away from the body. This is a bone that will move or rotate the whole body if you need to do that. Let's call it MainBone. Next, insert the hips. The way bones work in AS is the previously-selected bone acts as a "parent". So you will have to put one hip-bone in, de-select it, re-select the MainBone, and put in the other hip-bone. Put the other bones in up the spine. You need bones terminating at each shoulder joint and the neck.

Now insert bones for the arms and legs in the same way. Remember parenting! You will need to associate each leading bone with the end bones in the torso after moving them into place, so the skeleton moves as one.

E voila! One rigged skeleton...

No links?

No offence, but there is no way anyone will show you how to rig a full character inside a forum post, this would be pointless!

As ponysmasher mentioned, there is a full chapter on rigging a full character in the manual, so why say that there are none?

Plenty of tutorials out there as well.

Do as wizaerd says, do a search on the forum or on youtube.

I know of some good ones, but you did say no links! :)

why don't you put down a character wizard character and look how that is rigged? look for tutorials and EXPERIMENT - all these lazy threads are a bit irritating.

Now, that is an easy one.

1. Put a stick up in the middle of a field.
2. Attach a solid rope to the stick.
3. Attach the other end of the rope to your waist.
4. Dip your butt into a paint bucket.
5. Sit on the ground and drag.

For a decent circle I recommend constant tension on the rope!

Hope this helps! :)

Gilles, wouldn't that result in a spiral?

I am not sure I understood this, could you make a quick animation storyboard of how this is done?

Study the characters in the Library; you'll get a lot of ideas there (make sure you understand the different binding methods though). Keep in mind that rigging a character is a pretty individual thing and eventually you'll find out what works best for you. You will build and discard many rigs in the meantime. Good luck!

(@ponysmasher...no Link, lol!)

PS. Search for a fantastic guide by Amigaman called Creating Characters that shows you how to build a fully rigged character from the ground up.

Not if the rope at the pole is loose enough, as it should rotate as you drag your bum on the ground, I think.

Never actually did it, might go in the nutty things to do bin!
